Dr. Dinesh Veeran Ponnuvelu, Ph.D.

Ever since walking into my Under Graduate school at TNAU, INDIA at the age of 19, I dreamed of being an scientist. While I have not (yet) become the real scientist I thought sounded cool at age 20, I have had the privilege of doing quite a few different things in my career so far. I have had the chance to work as a researcher in nano-chemistry, nano-characterization, MEMS and test environments in the nanoelectronics and sensors labs. I then worked on the developmental side of gas sensors materials for several years in PSG IAS, INDIA before moving to a NanoScale Precision Sensing laboratory, South Korea to work on the research side of hydrogels and MEMS based plasmonic sensors followed by Tel Aviv University, Israel for gaining hands-on in radiation detector device fabrication. Two years later I found myself as a Professor at Karunya University, Coimbatore, India fulfilling a dream of being able to teach as well as carry out research in sensors of future. Along the way I have held roles in project management, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and even performed team leader in academic and research culture. Again I think, I have to study and learn more on medical devices and Bio-MEMS as the world experienced the downfall due to Covid-19 during 2020-2021. From January 2021 till December 2021, I landed at South Korea with a prestigious group in Sungkyunkwan University, Suwon city as Research Professor. As a materials scientist and biologist, I waffle between intense interest in fundamental scientific issues and the economic necessity of applying knowledge and engineering technology. My diverse background has given me broad technical experience, but fundamentally I see the world through the lens of a classically trained biologist cum physicts. Over the years I have worked in hybrid nanomaterials, bio/chemo sensors, photocatalysis, MEMS device fabrication, plasmonics leaden hydrogels, nano-contacts, CZT and CMT detectors. As biologist I often collaborate with  mechanical, electrical, and nuclear engineers, chemists, and physicists, as we have overlapping interest areas. Finally I ended at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Samayapuram, Tiruchirappalli, TN, India as Associate Professor at School of Agricultural Sciences, holding a SERB, SRG Project worth of 28 Lakhs (INR) to develop a quantum antenna as molecular detection tool for oxygen sensing. At home I enjoy gardening and botany, cooking and playing badminton, and having adventures with my family and friends.
